So being that this is the first time I’ve actually written a review for a movie…bare with me. I'm going to try my best to give you my honest opinion without any spoilers lol
So I took my boyfriend out on a movie date to see this movie, you know date night or whatever; trying to keep the psycho in us alive ( lol just kidding, we aren’t psychotic... I hope not). Although, they say if you put both socks on before putting on your shoes instead of one sock, then one shoe, and the other sock ,and the other shoe; chances are you might be a pyhco !*inserts emoji here :D*but thats all of us right ? …Right? FUCK… I’m off topic already…
Okay well moving on, if you’ve seen all 3 movies of the purge series being: The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy, The Purge: Election Year then I honestly have to say...this one was kind of a disappointment for me, and again this is only my opinion. To this day I think the first and second purge movies were the best but I had high hopes for “The First Purge” movie and I felt like I wasn’t given enough. Let me go on to explain a little more...
For those who are probably gonna go see this movie , let me give little break down (no spoilers.) “The First Purge” is a movie that is basically taken from a point of view of people in the government and the people in the neighborhood(Staten Island*a borough in New York) who have their own opinions on how to better the world, however, at the moment the government are pushing their own views by running an experiment in Staten Island first to see how the people will react on a national scale. It’s also a crazy ,yet realistic view of how far the government can push things and how desperate people can be to let it happen . This movie is filled with twist and those moments when your like “ OMG DID THAT JUST HAPPEN” and even some comedy relief for those who can’t take too much and need to chuckle a little before they end up having some series nightmares. The end is pretty great, and I can say it is a little less graphic from the last purge movies released. For those of you who are weak of heart and felt like it was too much. ( :p just teasing ! )
A lot of times reviewers go into how the acting was horrible or the roles could of been played better, but no that wasn’t it. In fact, actor Y'lan Noel who played Dimitri is from Brooklyn himself and I felt like he played his role so well as Dimitri (someone who is from Staten Island) . In fact , I look forward to seeing him in any future movies were he plays a “terminator” role lol Cause thats basically what he felt like in this movie. Overall, he was amazing and most of the other actors were pretty great. The one actor I didn’t favor as much was Joivan Wade who played Isaiah ; Nya’s little brother . It wasn’t that I didn’t favor him for his acting , I just felt like he didn’t have a lot of expression in this role as Isiah. Yet again, thats just my opinion.
Overall, I wouldn’t say this movie is a waste, I would say though ,do not go to the bathroom in the middle of the movie where the bathroom is a floor down and theres nobody around to hear you scream, unless you wanna find yourself running in heels out the stale and barely letting all your pee out...
(Cough cough) *spoken from personal experience *
That shit was terrifying! lol.
Thank you for reading and for those of you who will go watch it feel free to leave your opinion on it and what you think.
